Along the narrow and winding Queen's Highway, jutted out of the ground like pillars supporting the sky are the Hatchet Bay silos. A current day representation of the long gone glory days of the agricultural climax of Eleuthera, the silos now sit silent and empty like monuments of the past.
In 1927, the silos were a part of the Hatchet Bay Plantation. The thriving dairy and poultry farm supplied Nassau and Eleuthera with it's egg and milk rations. They were used to store feed for the farm's livestock.
Now, completely abandoned, they serve as a reminder of a once vibrant industry that today seems like only a dream.
